Tornado Touchdown - Clemson, SC

video, photos, radar

The day you're born, the day you die, the day you see your first tornado. All important days in anybody's life. For me, today was one of those days. The remnants of tropical storm Fay moved through South Carolina today. As with any tropical system, there's always the possibility of tornados. But honestly, I never in a million years thought this would be the day I would finally see one....

Thunderstorm - Anderson, SC

time lapse

Some thundershowers moved in from the northwest this afternoon. No big deal. Still, this might be my favorite timelapse so far. You can see a weak outflow boundary blow past from the rain cooled air. The back edge of the rain shaft is also neat, as there's some interaction between the rising clouds and sinking rain.

I decided to drive out and take a look. There were a few pieces of pea-sized hail, but that was about it. Meanwhile, back in Anderson, my other camera time-lapsed the line as it passed.

Thunderstorm - Anderson, SC

time lapse

Hot and humid conditions provided fuel for some afternoon thunderstorms. I noticed an outflow boundary slowly moving in from the east and initiating some thundershowers. I decided to try some time lapse and catch the storms as they moved in. This video is looking east-southeast. You can see a minor cell go up in the distance...
